23rd Annual Meeting Recap |
The Bureau’s 23rd
Annual Meeting at Vapor seemingly came and went in a
flash, but reviews of the evening have been all
positive, including glowing comments about the food,
the program and the substantial opportunities for
networking. Attendance may have been slightly down
– perhaps owing to a date conflict with the YMCA’s
annual meeting – but those who attended experienced
the quick wit and substantial insight of Elliott
Masie, a smoothly run meeting and tasty gigantic
shrimp. In his portion of the program, Elliott said
that in the last several weeks Saratoga became one
of the first communities in the country to host
Google’s 360 degree filming crews and he shared
greetings from Meetings Professional International
President Bruce MacMillan, who has also visited
Saratoga recently. He also started a conversation
about what the future of meetings in Saratoga might
look like. Overall, everyone agreed the evening was
quite a departure from the more sedate annual
meetings of the past, but it was a successful one;
and the Bureau extends its sincere thanks and
enthusiastic kudos to the staff of Vapor and the
Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, especially to Rita
Cox and Alyssa Dion, for their hard work and
admirable patience in putting everything together.
Thanks also to E.J. Harkins, who arranged for
complimentary beer from Saratoga Eagle Sales &
Service and to Steve “Sully” Sullivan, who
worked with Empire Merchants North to provide
wine gratis.
Bureau hosts
Spring FAM Friday, May 2nd
We’re kicking off the
start of the racing season with a
Derby-style celebration on Friday, May 2nd
in Saratoga for meeting planners! This FAM, or
familiarization tour, gives
15-20 qualified meeting planners an opportunity to
experience Saratoga venues for lunch and a cocktail
reception, while seeing our hotels and other
recreational offerings during an extended motor
coach tour during the afternoon. Invitations have
gone out to 75 planners with a special incentive for
early registration – one lucky planner will win
tickets to see Dave Matthews at SPAC! To
qualify for FAM participation, planners consider
Saratoga to host one or more of their company or
association meetings and submit details of the event
with their FAM registration.
Your Saratoga
Convention Bureau will host the Day at the Races
Summer FAM July 27-29, and an extended site visit
for meeting planners during our Thursday, December

ESSAE Trade Show
comes back to
Saratoga Springs!
The Empire State
Society of Association Executives (ESSAE) will once
again hold their Annual Conference and Exposition in
Saratoga Springs. On June 26th, executives
and professionals from New York state associations will
gather in Saratoga to participate in educational
sessions, network with their peers and walk the trade
show floor. Saratoga will once again be represented in
force, as we have reserved 16 booths on the expo floor.
The Bureau staff, along with many member hotels and
attractions, will use this space to meet, mingle and
network with current and prospective clients. The ESSAE
trade show is one of the most popular New York oriented
shows and provides an excellent opportunity for us to
showcase our community to these important decision
makers.
Saratoga at NEMICE
Your Bureau staff
will be traveling to Boston on April 8th and
9th to represent our community at the Meeting
Professionals International New England Chapter’s 22nd
Annual New England Meetings Industry Conference and
Exposition (NEMICE). Molly Brindle and several hotel
and attraction partners will be exhibiting on the trade
show floor, networking and conversing with meeting
planners and decision makers from the New England and
Atlantic coast region. Molly and partners will be
hosting a client dinner the evening of the 8th,
where we will have the opportunity to host and network
one-on-one with 10 to 12 meeting planners. The Saratoga
team will also be setting appointments off the trade
show floor to meet with clients not attending NEMICE.
The NEMICE show is the third largest in the MPI family
of meetings and each year attracts approximately 1300 to
1500 attendees from all sectors of the meetings
industry.
