Northeast Christmas Conference and Trade Show Coming to Saratoga in January 2009

First quarter business is always welcomed in Saratoga Springs, so we are excited to announce the signing of an agreement with Christmas Tree Farmers of New York State to host a northeast regional conference here January 23-25, 2009.  The Bureau appreciates the teamwork that has gone into growing this conference from “ a seedling,” and we extend our thanks to Chip Ellms of Ellms Family Farm in Charlton, NY, along with Mark Baker and Judy LeCain of the Saratoga Springs City Center, and Cindy Sullivan and Darryl Leggieri of The Saratoga Hotel.  Mark, Cindy and the Bureau’s Senior Sales Manager Molly Brindle attended the CTFANY annual conference at Turning Stone in January 2007 to talk with board members about moving to Saratoga in 2009.  CTFANY Executive Director Bob Norris and the board decided not only to move their conference, but to use this opportunity to move forward with a plan they’d tried once before to host a northeast regional Winter conference attracting the New England state associations.  Saratoga supported this effort by conducting pre-conference promotion with Kathy Denkenberger, Judy, Cindy and Molly at Turning Stone this January, and by exhibiting at the National Christmas Tree Association Summer meeting in Bangor, Maine in August 2007.  The Northeast Christmas Conference has the potential to become an annual or bi-annual January conference with 300+ attendees.

M.P.I. Conference in Houston, Texas

Earlier this month, Heather McElhiney attended the five day Meeting Professional International Professional Education Conference in Houston, TX.    The conference, titled “Meet Different," focused on the changing face of meetings and scrutinized what planners are looking for in a meeting destination. This is an annual conference that provides attendees not only top level education – Saratoga’s own Elliot MASIE of the MASIE Center was a featured speaker and presenter – but also ample time to network and build relationships with meeting planners from our own backyard and around the world.  The conference was a great success in both ways as Heather came back with many new ideas and insights, as well as some new meeting planner contacts!

DID YOU KNOW?

The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce said last year, overnight visitors spent more than $110 million in Saratoga County!
Saratoga County received more than 44,900 requests via phone, mail, or e-mail seeking information about events in the area. Those looking for information about Saratoga County came from Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states: 27% from
New York, 10% from New Jersey,
9% from Pennsylvania, 6% from Connecticut, and 5% from Massachusetts.

According to the Associated Press, in 2008, experts say, Americans may take shorter trips or choose destinations closer to home where their dollar goes further.
But they will still travel. The Conference Board's most recent consumer survey found 45.8 percent of Americans intend to take a vacation within six months, down just a tad from 46.4 percent
a year ago.

Do you know anyone that used to be a member of the Bureau?

 We would like them back!
With all the positive changes happening here in Saratoga we would like them to consider re-joining.

The staff at the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau is working hard to bring trade shows/meetings/conventions to town. The more members we can recommend to cover any possible need the groups may have, the more successful we will all be!

Please send us their
contact information!
