Bureau News & Events

2008 is Chowderfest’s 10-year tradition in Saratoga.  Last year, 40 restaurants participated and we’re trying to eclipse that number this year – and we’re close!  But we need your help.  Promotional flyers, including voter ballots, a map, and print and television ad deadlines are approaching and we need your commitment now!  We have to close all of this off by this Friday, January 11 to make the publication deadline.  So please call Connie Crudo at 584-1531, extension 101 or Angela LaTerra at extension 107 in time to be part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Chowderfest!

Chowderfest has earned a reputation as a great way to spend a day in Saratoga.  It’s also become quite a heated competition among restaurateurs in town in all the various Chowder categories.  This year restaurants will compete for coveted Best of Show bragging rights in the following categories:

  • Best On Broadway
  • Best Off-Broadway
  • Best Non-Downtown
  • Best Newcomer
  • Best Canine Chowder (Dog Chow-der…get it?)
  • Most Chowder Served
  • And the hotly contested … People’s Choice Award

It’s mostly about the chowder, but it’s all about bringing people to Saratoga, not only to sample hot soup on a cold day, but also to explore, discover and enjoy the restaurants, retail shops and the overall ambiance of a great American city.

This year, both the Saratoga Springs Visitor Center and the Saratoga Arts Center will be outlets for Chowderfest tee shirt distribution and where Chowdervoters can drop off ballots to be tallied.  We want to thank both Joel Reed and Mary Jane Pelzer for their enthusiasm and willingness to step up and help.

Attention Members!

The Bureau is working hard to bring meeting planners to the region but we need your help! Please send us your new 2008 brochures or the most current version of collateral materials to include into our meeting planner packets. These packets are chock full of flyers, brochures and collateral material mainly from our members. The materials help illuminate and sell Saratoga as a premier destination city. Please mail or drop them off at our office as soon as possible, thanks!

Marketing Updates

Recently, the Bureau staff sat down together and planned out the entire 2008 year. We scanned every month and discussed the dates for the upcoming trade shows and promo events of the year. The meeting session helps the Bureau be more prepared and timely when it starts to come close to the actual date of an event or show.
