A few days prior to the start of the Destination Showcase trade show, Destination Management Association International (DMAI) once again offered their highly rated Sales Academy I and II. While Sales Academy I is meant for the destination sales professional with less than two years experience, Sales Academy II is designed for destination sales professionals with three or more year’s experience. Heather traveled to Washington, DC a few days early to take part in Sales Academy II, a two day educational peer-to-peer session designed to address advanced selling concepts, questions, best practices and ideas. The course allows for bureau sales people from around the country – and sometimes world – to discuss the state of the industry, what works and what does not, popular and upcoming trends, creative problem solving, prospecting methods and so much more. Twenty two people from 19 destinations participated in Sales Academy II, allowing for Heather to bring back a wealth of knowledge and ideas from some of our industries most enthusiastic and talented purveyors.
Marie Moynihan and Heather McElhiney represented Saratoga while exhibiting in the Destinations Showcase Conference & Expo on February 26th in Washington D.C. This is one of the meeting industry’s largest forums exclusively bringing corporate, government, association and independent meeting planners together with exhibiting destination marketing organizations (DMOs and CVBs) from the U.S. and beyond.

Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) hosts this expo twice a year (D.C. in February and Chicago in June). There was record attendance for this year’s February showcase. Marie and Heather met a large number of meeting planners as they visited the Saratoga booth for information. Both are now busy following up with the contacts they made at the show and working to bring new business to our community by hosting their meetings & conferences.
