When you become a member of the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau in Saratoga Springs NY, your business will be actively promoted through various member-only outlets. We actively work to attract conventions, meetings, trade shows and social events to Saratoga Springs and bring business to our local neighborhood vendors.
This testimonial came from a recent group that was in town, The Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence...
"Our organization was overwhelmed with the hospitality, expertise, talent, punctuality, pleasantness, sense of humor, cooperation, and all the other positive things that all of you exhibited in the planning, suggesting, cooperating, and executing the many details of our Spring Meeting.
The DSDI attendees certainly expressed their gratitude to me for hosting this magnificent event, and I continued to make sure they went away with an appreciation of the great cooperation I encountered by every person I worked with in setting up this event. You are all very worthy representatives of your fine community. I, my wife and family, and the members of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence thank you again!"
---Mel Livingston, DSDI Governor for New York

As we look back on the first quarter of this year, we are encouraged by steady growth in hotel occupancy and demand. While average rate at our properties remained flat to 2009, we did start to see an increase in March which is also very encouraging. Several properties tell us that they had great first quarters and the rest of the year is shaping up nicely. I can tell you that this is not the case in other destinations around the state or country. Saratoga remains a strong and attractive player in the meetings, conference and group tour markets. Our lodging options, restaurants, shops, attractions and services continue to draw in new and repeat business.
Well, the sun is finally shining, the days are getting longer (and warmer), horses are starting to arrive for training, the flowers are out along Broadway and in Congress Park and Groups and Conference delegates are arriving!! May is a very busy month for Saratoga Springs; there are two Saratoga Rowing Assn. events…the NYS Scholastic Rowing Championships on May 7 – 9, and the 72nd Annual Scholastic National Regatta on May 26 – 30. And in between these two events are several large conferences and forums, attracting several thousand additional visitors, and we are looking forward to rolling out the red carpet for all of them.
The Bureau team will also be busy in our efforts to attract new conference and group business to Saratoga. On, Wed May 19, the Bureau will hold its annual Golf Classic at Saratoga National Golf Course. We look forward to hosting our members, prospective members, meeting planner guests and group tour organizers for a day of fun and friendly competition. This year, we will also be raising money and awareness for B.E.S.T. which benefits the Backstretch Workers at Saratoga Race Course. There is still time to register for this event! Sign up at www.discoversaratoga.org
As we gear up for the summer months, our sales team will be on the road looking for new business. Several sales missions and trade shows are planned for the remainder of the year. From a services and membership perspective, we will continue to provide the world-class service and hospitality that differentiates Saratoga Springs from other destinations and keeps our groups coming back year after year!

Sales and Services Update
|
It has been a great month for Saratoga! Recently, the Westfield chapter of Meeting Professional International contacted the bureau with interest in bringing their May 2010 board retreat to Saratoga. Convention Sales Manager Heather McElhiney is an auxiliary member of this chapter and has been attending meetings and functions held by the chapter three to five times a year. Members of this chapter are from the Westchester county, NY or Fairfield county, CT areas and include many corporate and independent meeting planners as well as national hotel sales people. We enthusiastically took up the challenge of finding homes for 16 meeting professionals for three days of meetings, morning and evening events, and all of the logistics involved. With a great amount of support, sponsorship and cooperation from several member hotels, off site venues, attractions and service providers, we were able to put together a fantastic package for this group in a matter of days! In addition to spending time in the hotels and venues that are hosting the different parts of the meeting, the group will venture out with the bureau on four excursions to experience Saratoga bureau style! We have put together a package somewhat similar to our FAM tour that will show attendees all corners of our fantastic city and why we are the ideal choice for their future board meeting, incentive trip, sales training, division retreat or business meeting. As the host city for this meeting, not only will we get the great exposure while the meeting is here, we will continue to have a presence in the chapters electronic communications and on their website throughout the year, and at the chapters Annual Awards dinner.
Convention Services
May promises to bring another busy convention month to our city. We have many repeat customers coming this month along with some who have met in our city previously but it has been awhile. We welcome all of you to our city – when you see our Welcome Posters hanging in many windows along Broadway – make sure if you see someone wearing a name badge you be sure to thank them for coming to Saratoga.
Spring – a time for cleaning, re-growth and renewal. Let’s not only think about all of that in the “real” sense of what needs to be done. Let’s think about it internally as well. Hospitality is our business – everything we do reflects on a group we are working with – or another that is currently meeting here. Our actions speak to our success. Let’s not only think about how we react to our customers – but to each other as well. We are all in this together – and together we make a fantastic city and terrific place to visit. Let’s all welcome not only our clients, but our friends and neighbors to see what fabulous hospitality we have in Saratoga.
There is an Association for Everything and Everyone!
This month I would like to highlight Saratoga Rowing Association. Saratoga will see not just one but TWO Rowing Regattas being held in Saratoga Springs in May 2010. May 7-9, 2010 we will see the State Championships being held at Saratoga Lake. This event will bring approx. 4,000 people to the area including the competitors, officials, families and spectators. May 26-30, 2010 will bring the 72nd Scholastic National Regatta to Saratoga Springs. This event will bring approx 10,000 people!
We would like to thank Chris Chase and his entire team along with the Saratoga Rowing Club for their tireless efforts to host these competitions. Countless of volunteer hours go into each one of these events that will bring thousands of people to Saratoga to stay in our lodging properties, shop in our retail stores and eat in our fabulous restaurants.

Saratoga Specialties Company supports the troops with “Operation: Thanks a Ton!”
Saratoga Specialties Company is reaching out to all area food manufacturers to solicit donations to be sent to troops serving in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Saratoga Specialties will collect and ship the goods to troops who are serving in the most difficult and dangerous areas with the fewest “comforts” of home. Their goal is to collect and ship a literal ton (2000 pounds) of regionally made food by June 1st.
This program is just one of a series of initiatives Saratoga Specialties Company is taking to give to those in need, to support their community and to ensure they continue to be a compassionate, connected business now and in the future.

City Center Update
|
Daily trips on Broadway past the City Center showcases the construction progress of the facility’s expansion. Moving full-steam ahead, the contractors have begun laying the cross pieces for the floor decking and the wall boards that will hold the exterior brick facing. Recently, the City Center staff was given the opportunity to sign a beam and then watched as “our” beam was raised to 2nd floor height.
