NEW PROGRAM!

 RECOGNIZING
OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

The Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau  launched an annual program recognizes outstanding service, professionalism and stewardship within the hospitality industry in Saratoga called “Hospitality Stars of Saratoga”. This program provides an opportunity for Bureau members to be recognized, by their peers & customers alike, for going above and beyond the normal call of duty and build upon Saratoga’s reputation as providing world-class hospitality.

All Bureau members are eligible. Nominees will be grouped into categories and those will consist of lodging, restaurants, service providers/retail establishments and attractions/entertainment. Nominations will come in the form of a narrative, describing instances of an individual exceeding expectations and providing outstanding service. Nominations can be submitted at any point during the calendar year via the online form at www.discoversaratoga.org.

A committee will review nominations and select winners within each category. Nominees will be recognized each quarter in the Bureau’s Member Newsletter with the winners in each category being recognized at the Annual Meeting each March.

Sponsorships of this program will be solicited from the Bureau membership. Winners will receive a $250 Downtown Business Association (DBA) certificate, engraved plaque and Certificate acknowledging the award and signed by committee members.

Member Testimonials

When you become a member of the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau in Saratoga Springs NY, your business will be actively promoted through various member-only outlets. We actively work to attract conventions, meetings, trade shows and social events to Saratoga Springs and bring business to our local neighborhood vendors.

"The vibrancy of Saratoga Springs downtown is due in part to the dedicated work and very pleasant staff of the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau. The business seasons are expanded during the fall, winter and spring by their efforts, bringing business to our town year round, dispelling the myth that Saratoga has business only in the summer season. Whether the impact of their activities to solicit groups to the area affects a business directly or indirectly, their success at bringing so many to Saratoga adds to our area being one of the most vital upstate communities. As a small business owner, I appreciate the Bureau as a supporting organization that enhances Saratoga’s vitality."

---Mary Cae Asay, owner of Saratoga Downtowner Motel

Sales and Services Update

Check this out! Statewide Intelligence Summit concludes...

It’s been another active month with the Bureau’s ongoing sales efforts! Marie has been working closely with Capital Region clients including call days in and around the Albany market each week. With the expansion of our City Center nearly complete we are making every effort to stay ‘top of mind’ with meeting professionals. Saratoga was invited to bid on the 2013 Lions of NYS & Bermuda Convention this month in Binghamton. Marie presented a comprehensive proposal including our City Center, Saratoga Hilton and several other hotel properties as part of this city wide opportunity. Additionally, Marie travelled to Morristown New Jersey for sales calls as and the PCMA educational and networking event. This was a well attended event by both suppliers and meeting professionals that offered a great deal of face time for meeting and greeting prospective clients. Marie made several new contacts and will be pursuing appointments with them in an effort to attract their group business to Saratoga. November plans include hosting upcoming site visits as well as sales call days in the New England area, New York City and our own Capital Region.

On October 18th, Heather McElhiney and hotel partners traveled Charlotte, NC to attend TEAMS 2010, a well known and respected sports event marketing event. Heather and hotel partners spent the week networking with event organizers, holding targeted appointments with about 25 organizers, and attending various conference functions, including a community service project. We met with groups like USA Gymnastics , the sole national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in the United States as designated by the U.S. Olympic Committee, to Adrenalin Sports Management, a sports management company that organizing 5K and marathon races throughout the country, such as the Santa Shuffle in Chicago. We met with organizers of Senior Softball Tournaments, BMX bike races, year round Dualathons and Triathlons, Bike races and Charity Events, and even an event called “Tough Mudder” – an extreme mud-run endurance road race. All of these events bring with them hundreds of athletes, fans and spectators who will need to shop, eat and sleep here in Saratoga. We are very excited about the connections we made while in Charlotte, the RFP’s we have received and the future business opportunities this conference has afforded our area!

Group Tour Market

In addition to keeping our operators regularly updated, we will be working on putting together packages to sell to the market and would like to include all of you. Both for our newsletter and for our trade shows and sales calls, we need to know what is happening at your place of business. We need information on your upcoming exhibits, your “hot rate” deals, your special events – any information or event that you would like the group tour market to know about and participate in! In order to successfully sell a tour, operators generally need to know about an event 6 months prior, but prefer 9 to 12 months lead time. We will be happy to include any “last minute deals” – 3 months or less lead time – but we will find the most success with ample lead time. Newsletters will be sent on a monthly basis and we will need regular updates from our members to make it successful.

Please send all information you would like included in this newsletter, as well as questions or comments , to Heather McElhiney. All items should be sent to at heather@discoversaratoga.org. We look forward to hearing from you!!
