Saratoga Familiarization Tour Recap
The Saratoga hospitality community happily welcomed 14 meeting planners and their guests to Saratoga Springs for a late summer FAM – or Familiarization - tour. The tour kicked off on Thursday, 9/14 with the Meeting Planners International Northeast Chapter meeting highlighting contract negotiations. The group then reconvened at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame for a tour and delicious lunch. We then hopped on the Horsin’ Around Trolley for part one of our city tour that included attractions, hotels and the sights. The evening ended with a reception at Prime at Saratoga National Golf Club. Day two found us back at the Saratoga Springs City Center for breakfast before departing on the trolley again for part two of our city tour. We concluded our tour in time for guests to enjoy Saratoga’s charm and amenities – spa appointments, tee times and shopping were in demand! The SCTB would like to thank our hospitality partners for helping us put on a very successful FAM tour and to our guest who joined us for all or part of this educational and entertaining tour. A very special thank you to Leslie Miller and her fantastic team’s at the Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott for going above and beyond to showcase their properties, welcome our guests, and provide some much appreciated entertainment during our hotel stops on the trolley tour.

Mary Jo Janis, Director of Convention Sales -
I am delighted to be back in Saratoga and have enjoyed my first few weeks in my new postition! I want to thank all of our hotel partners who have hosted me for tours of their properties. It is amazing that we have so many beautiful properties in our immediate area to offer our convention guests. I am looking forward to hosting many site tours with all of you, and am focusing on the association and corporate markets for future conventions.
We will be moving forward with plans for several site visits in late October and early November, focusing on new association and corporate business. I will be attending ESSAE's Autumn Idea Market on Friday, October 7th at the Hilton Garden Inn at Albany Medical Center.
Thank you all for such a warm welcome back to the Saratoga community!
September was another busy month for your SCTB sales team. We gained the expertise and energy of Mary Jo Janis, transitioned into the busiest conference time of year, and kicked off a plethora of conference and trade show travel. Heather McElhiney attended the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Small Market Segment meeting in Colorado Springs, which was immediately followed by the United States Olympic Committee’s (USOC) Sportslink. The small market segment meeting was a educational meeting that offered the chance to meet with sports industry peers to discuss best practices, common issues, tradeshow opportunities, and hot industry topics. The NASC meeting wrapped up with a reception for attendees and invited representatives of the USOC’s National Governing Bodies (NGB’S) – the event decision makers for various sanctioned Olympic qualifier events. The two day NASC meeting was immediate followed by a the two day OSOC Sportslink show, which included education, networking and appointments with six NGB representatives. Heather met with US Speedskating, US Pentathlon and US Cycling, just to name a few. We are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with both our regional and national sports directors and to seeing more USOC sanctioned events traveling to Saratoga! October will find Heather at the weeklong TEAMS trade show, another sports related appointment show, and then it is off to New Jersey, followed by PA and CT, to meet with our regional group tour companies.

Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial Restoration Campaign Community Meeting
Please join Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, along with friends, partners, and volunteers on Monday October 15, 2011 at 7pm at the Saratoga Arts Center to learn more about the Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial Restoration Campaign. Both SSPF and the City of Saratoga Springs have partnered together for this four year-long project to preserve the Memorial in Congress Park. In addition to partnering with the City, Saratoga Springboard has also selected this worth while project as their 2011 award winner. Saratoga Springboard will aid SSPF in increasing awareness for the project as well as create fundraising tools and events that will benefit the restoration campaign.
Through an illustrated presentation, the public will learn more about the history of the Memorial, its past care and current condition, and hear more details regarding the budget and four year plan; including an unveiling of the newly restored Memorial and sculpture in 2015 upon its centennial anniversary. Community members will be invited to ask questions during a moderated Q&A session and may sign up to volunteer or participate in the restoration campaign. We look forward to seeing you at this important meeting.
