Helping Local Kids Comes in First for Drivers at Saratoga Harness Track

For the third year in a row, drivers from the Harness Track at Saratoga Casino and Raceway (SCR) have chosen Franklin Community Center (FCC) as the recipient of their generosity for “Project Lift”, donating their driver’s fees for an entire day to the Center and proving that giving back to the local community is just as important as the race to the finish line.

On August 30, the FCC’s “Project Lift” will benefit from this year’s donation of $6,000. That donation consists of the $3,000 in driver’s fees which are voluntarily given up by the drivers and then matched by Saratoga Casino and Raceway.  Raceway officials say the drivers are so passionate about the cause, that they are the ones who spearhead the annual effort to make this donation happen. Heather completed the second of three slated group tour and travel sales blitz missions, this one to companies in Pennsylvania.  Heather and other New York State attractions visited with 11 group tour operators to discuss Saratoga as a future tour destination.  We received very positive responses from our meetings and increased interest since our sales blitz to this area last year.  Heather will continue to follow up with each  operator we met with in the coming weeks, and will ultimately be making a three to four day sales trip to visit one on one with the companies we met, as well as with the many additional prospects in the area.  October will bring Heather to New Jersey to call on Group Tour Operators in the NJ/Metro NY area. The bureau has had great response to our group sales efforts, with our exposure and recognition growing exponentially in the last year.  We are happy to welcome many new group tour attendees to our shops, restaurants, attractions, museums, spas, hotels, galleries and boutiques!

Convention Services

National Celebrate Services Day

On Thursday, August 25, 2011 Sales and Services from 6 Hotel properties (17 people in all) and the Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau gathered at the Saratoga Race Course to enjoy a beautiful morning and delicious breakfast.  Why?  Well – The Association of Convention Operations Managers (ACOM) declared August 25th as National Celebrate Services Day.  Our slogan was – “Great Meetings Don’t Just Happen”.

Kathy Denkenberger (ACOM member for 16 years and currently serves on their Board of Directors) welcomed the group, explained a little bit about the association and thanked everyone who took time out of their crazy busy schedules to enjoy and share in this celebration.  Todd Garofano, SCTB President also expressed his gratitude to those in attendance for helping  our city host successful meetings, conferences and events.  Drawings for prizes were held and a few ideas were exchanged amongst the group.

Our Association (ACOM) received National attention from publications like PCMA, Convene, MPI, USAE. All of these associations promoted this day to their entire membership realizing the value convention services has to successful meetings.

A sincere THANK YOU to all who attended!
