Four seasons of Saratoga NY events include Winter Weekend...an annual Saratoga mid-winter tradition! Chowderfest is a community program of the Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau that takes place during Winter Weekend.  It is a fun thing to do on a cold winter day! As you can see by the pictures below, it is a great time for the entire family.  You don't want to miss it!  For more information on Chowderfest or if you would like to become a member of the Bureau and sign up to participate, please contact Connie!

Here's how it works:  Pick up a ballot form at any participating establishment, taste different soups and chowders for a $1 a cup (3oz. serving) and vote for your favorite!  Complete your ballot form and pick up your official Chowderfest Long-sleeve T-shirt for $7.00! Ballot drop-offs and T-shirt locations will be at the Saratoga County Arts Center, the Saratoga Springs Visitor Center and Saratoga Springs City Center. Winner Awards Ceremony in front of the Saratoga Springs City Center at 6:00 p.m.!

2012 Participants Serving Dog Chowder:

Coming back for the fourth year in a row will be the "Dog Chow Down"! Starting at 1:00 pm at the Saratoga Downtowner Motel, a contest between the stores participating in making dog chowder will compete! The Chow-Down will feature Mayor Scott Johnson, his wife Julie and their dog Biff.  Last year, the Mayor brought his other dog Chase, so this is Biff’s year in the spotlight!

Dawgdom -proceeds from the chowder and Doggybooth will benefit Rottie Empire Rescue, Heather Bohm-Tallman Photography will have their DoggieBooth set up at Dawgdom.  No sitting fee. Kids welcome!

Impressions of Saratoga -Bailey's Barking Good Chowder, proceeds from the chowder will benefit the Saratoga Animal Shelter

Sloppy Kisses -Who wants a cute Valentine photo of their doggie? Come to Sloppy Kisses in Downtown Saratoga on Saturday Feb. 4 from 11-2 and Enchanted Reflections Photography will be there! Kids welcome! Proceeds from the chowder will go to The American Cancer Society's Dogs and Diva Event Fund.

EVENTS

  • RADIO DISNEY IS COMING TO CHOWDERFEST!
    Bring your little Chowderhounds to rock out to the sounds of Disney.  Come to the Saratogian’s parking lot (20 Lake Ave.) and let the kids dance their winter blues away with the Disney Road Crew from 2-3:30 pm. Radio Disney is sponsored by Allerdice Rent-All and the Saratogian.
  • The Police Benevolent Association will be serving FREE hot chocolate and coffee in front of Piper Boutique from 11 am-4 pm.
  • Saratoga Plan will have kid’s activities at the City Center.
  • United Methodist Church will be handing out FREE hot chocolate at the City Center.
  • On Friday afternoon, ice sculptor, Sean Taylor of Iceography in Oneonta, will begin carving a dog sled and dogs in front of the Visitor's Center. On Saturday, he will complete the masterpiece  and you can sample Pretwick Chase of Saratoga's chowder.

2012 Winter Weekend Events:

  • Friday, Febuary 3: Winterfest Wine Tasting at the Holiday Inn. 232 Broadway, 584-6511 ext. 1352. $10 a person. Sample a selection of wines and a display of hors d'oeuvres. All proceeds will benefit Mollie Wilmot Center at Saratoga Hospital and Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center of Saratoga.
  • This event is postponed until Friday, March 2. Friday, February 3: 1 mile Candlelight Ski and Snowshoe Event from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Families are invited to enjoy an evening at Saratoga Spa State Park for FREE. Snowshoes will be available to rent.  The event will take place at the Warming Hut.  The park will also offer ice skating, hot food and drinks.
  • Saturday, February 4: Prestwick Chase at Saratoga's WinterFest from 12 -3 pm on the front lawns.  Come to 100 Saratoga Blvd. for music by Sonny & Perley, Balloon Extravaganza by Dayrl Baldwin, Face Painting by Peggy Were of About Face, Caricature Sketch Artists Rich Conley and Phil Singer, an Ice Sculpture by Charlie Jones and Julie Carson’s Horse Drawn Wagon Rides. 
    Also at Prestwick Chase, join the fun of  Cardboard & Duct Tape Sled Races!!  No entry fee for sled contestants.  Sleds must be constructed of regular cardboard, duct tape and paint ONLY.  Costumed team members are encouraged.  Be creative and have fun!  Go to www.prestwickchase.com for details.  
  • This event is postponed until the next full moon - March 3rd. Saturday, February 4: Annual Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe at Camp Saratoga off of Scout Road in Ganesvoort from 6:00-9:30 pm. 2 1/2 miles of groomed luminary-lit trails for cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Bonfires and free cocoa. FREE and open to public event, $3 rental of snowshoes beginning at 5:30 pm. Sponsored by Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park, 518-450-0321.
